Bid Team Tips & Techniques
Question: Where do I begin to look to solve
a problem?
Computer software support issues generally
arise from one of these four sources:
1. Hardware
2. Software
3. Data (database, estimates)
4. Operator Failure
You can save yourself a great deal of time
if you can immediately narrow the problem
down to one of these four. Narrow it down
by asking some questions. This will help
you answer the question "Where do I
start?"
Does the problem occur on more than one computer?
If yes, it points to the software or data.
If no, it points to your hardware.
Does the problem occur in more
than one database?
If yes, it points to the software
or hardware.
If no, it points to the database.
Does the problem occur in more
than one estimate?
If yes, it points to the software
or hardware.
If no, it points to the estimate.
Does the problem occur on more
than one computer
using different data? If yes,
it points to
software. If no, it points to
hardware or
by testing this you will find
bad data.
