Traffic Ahead
Web outlets for builders
By Gerry Donohue
To increase traffic to their sites, many
builders have linked to Web sites that act
like high-tech Yellow Pages, such as homebuilder.com,
which is the NAHB's official new homes Web
site, and buildscape.com, which links contractors
with suppliers, manufacturers, and home buyers.
www.homebuilder.com has about 12,000 builder
listings. Prospects search by geographic
area and can view floor plans and elevations
and even take virtual tours of homes. If
a builder has a Web site, he or she can link
it to homebuilder.com.
"We get a huge number of referrals from
homebuilder.com," says Andrea Anker,
director of marketing at Atlanta-based Colony
Homes.
www.buildscape.com lists more than 214,000
home builders and general contractors. Buyers
can search for the name, address, and phone
number of builders in their market and buy
a Dun & Bradstreet report on specific
companies detailing sales volume, number
of employees, and creditworthiness.
